The Maberly Fair
A Country Fair, Celebrating the Ontario Farmer
What happens at the end of every summer, features the fruit of the Ontario farmer's labour, has more feet than you can count, and just celebrated its 135th birthday?!
It's the Maberly Fair!
An annual Lanark County community event since 1882, The Maberly Fair is an old-fashioned country fair held on the last Saturday of August.
Rain or shine, come hail or high water...
The Ontario farmer works (and plays) all the same, and it's always a very fun (and busy) day...
Live entertainment, fresh food and a wide variety of shows, exhibits and contests for all ages: horsemanship, livestock, horticulture, baking, quilting, crafts and so much more!
"My family has such a great time at The Maberly Fair every year! The Fairgrounds are beautiful, the exhibits seem to get better every year, and the atmosphere is so positive and welcoming."
- Says Everyone
But if you're expecting the usual expensive, overrated spectacle of rides, tantrums and junk food… Then the Maberly Fair will certainly surprise you.
There are no rollercoasters or ferris wheels. No whack-a-mole games or cheap, oversized stuffed animals suspended from midway rafters.
This is an agricultural fair, people...
A Country Fair: Celebrating the Ontario Farmer
And it’s important.
Let us be the first to proudly proclaim: it's so much better than the average carnival. The Maberly Fair- like the many other country fairs in Eastern Ontario- is about connecting with the community, and celebrating our rural Ontario culture.
And having tons of fun!
Along with all the games and exhibitions, we have a few exciting featured events every year at the Maberly Fair: our community parade, the famous Zucchini Race, An On-Stage Cake Decorating Contest, new 4H events for kids and more!
Every year has a chosen theme too, which is incorporated into the day’s activities. In 2017, for example, our theme was the celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday. You can see the details for this year’s fair at the top of this page, and visit our FAIR ARCHIVES to see pictures and details from past years.
There really is a little something for everyone at the Maberly Fair!
We have events and exhibits in all age categories, ranging from kids as young as 2 to seniors over the age of 65. So bring the whole family (every generation of Ontario farmers)!
To get a better idea, you should read the Fair Program which is printed well in advance every year. It has everything you would ever need to know about the Fair… from a schedule of events, to a detailed break-down of every contest and exhibit, to the people involved and contact information, to the partners and sponsors of the current year’s Maberly Fair.
To find out more, and to read the most current Maberly Fair Book (and the older ones too)... Check out THIS PAGE, and you’ll see other links around the website too.
If you’ve already digested the book and you’re ready to plan your country fair tour de force, visit our REGISTRATION PAGE... It has a form for every type of participation imaginable: light horse show, exhibits, volunteers, performers, advertisers and more. So many ways to get involved!
Ok. So you know it's fun. And you know that it celebrates Ontario farmers, and that it's been happening for a long, long time...
But Have You Met The Maberly Agricultural Society?
The Maberly Fair is brought to you every August long weekend by the Maberly Agricultural Society, a non-profit organization chartered as a corporation under the Ontario Agricultural and Horticultural Societies Act.
It is run by an Executive Board of unpaid volunteers, elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Although the Board has changed many times over the last 135 years, members of the Maberly Agricultural Society have been more than happy to serve for decades.

And Our Selfless, Indispensable Maberly Fair Volunteers
We can't forget to mention the tireless and tenacious army of people, throughout the Maberly Fair's history, who have given their precious time and energy each year to keep the fair going.
Setting up, maintenance, cleaning, lifting and hauling and so much more... None of it- no country fair in the world, in fact- would be possible without them.
If that’s you… THANK YOU SO MUCH!
And if you want to become one of our beloved country fair helpers, just fill out [THIS FORM] and we’ll get back to you very shortly.
Only Maberly Agricultural Society members may register as participants at the Fair (although there are a few exceptions). Membership in the Society is open to any person upon payment of the annual $5 membership fee.
But everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the wonders of the fair! Whether you register in the Light Horse Show, or you enter a baked good or a prized farm animal, or you just pop in for an afternoon of fun, food and entertainment...
