Our New Online Home for the Ontario Farmer
It is our home too... The Maberly Agricultural Society and the Maberly Fair, of course. Our upcoming events and the local neighbourhood too. This is obviously why we're here.
But we've taken it so much further, and created a huge online resource for rural Ontarians.
Ministry contacts, farm advocacy and education agencies, service organizations, research libraries and community initiatives, contests, books, blogs and so much more!
Based in Maberly, yes... But we have a much larger audience in mind:
the Ontario farmer her or himself, and rural communities like ours all over the province.
And we are quite pleased to make everyone's acquaintance.
The village of Maberly, Ontario wakes up in a very big way once a year!
A parade, live entertainment, delicious food... Horses and livestock...
Agriculture, horticulture, baking and crafts…
Games and contests… Even our famous Zucchini Race!
It’s been happening since 1882, and shows no signs of slowing down.
So join us on the last Saturday of every August to see what all the fanfare is about.
We’ve made it easy-peasy for you to learn all about the Maberly Fair.
You can read the current edition, or the last few printings, of the all-knowing Fair Book…
You can see pictures, stories and links from our past fairs in the Archives…
And you can even register to be a participant in this year’s festivities!
And the Maberly Fair needs to have a home, right?!
Wide open space for a few thousand people, and all the necessary accoutrements of a country fair… Lots of parking, seating, stables and pens. A large stage and covered areas.
Welcome to the Maberly Agricultural Fair Grounds!
A beautiful piece of land on the southwestern edge of Lanark County.
Not only is it the perfect spot for the Fair- and a familiar surrounding for any Ontario farmer- the Maberly Fair Grounds are also available to be leased as a storage facility, a special event and outdoor entertainment venue or any other suitable applications you can think of.
And you might as well check out the rest of the Tay Valley while you’re here!
Celebrating Ontario farmers isn’t the only thing you can do here… We will tell you about just a few of the many reasons to visit our neighbourhood.
There are many hands on a farm, in most cases, as you well know…
And the Maberly Fair is no different. The Maberly Agricultural Society has been organizing the Fair, and related community fundraisers, for over 135 years! You can check out our current starting line-up, as well as a few past notables and a brief history for those who are interested.
But they couldn’t possibly have done it alone…
Like we said: many hands make the Ontario farmer better… And we would like to celebrate the countless volunteers who have done more than their part, and also to introduce you to a few organizations with which we are most intimately aligned.
Not only do many hands make work light, as the proverb assures…
They also make life a little easier too. Farms are, after all, about family and community.
About people... So let’s meet them:
News and Resources
Finding relevant information for the Ontario farmer is a tough task, isn’t it?
What are the most important organizations saying? Where can you find information and tools just for us? How can you filter out all the other unrelated, unwanted stuff?
Well, we have done our best to bridge this gap!
OMAFRA, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the National Farmers Union, 4H Ontario and so many more… These are the voices that matter most to the Ontario farmer, and our rural communities. So we’ve brought them all together under one roof, so to speak.
We have real-time blog feeds, social media updates and helpful links for as many important sources as we could find, including ourselves here at the Maberly Agricultural Society.
And there are so many different things in our Resources section, we wouldn't even know how to start stuffing that nutshell... You should just check it out for yourself, but take your time.
So if you're already an expert on the Maberly Fair and the Lanark County neighbourhood, and you've met the Ag Society and all of our closest friends... this is where you can stop and explore. This is the definitive news, information and resource gateway for the Ontario farmer. Period.
